While most people don’t like to be labeled, those who market to older Americans continue to search for words or phrases that best describe that segment of our population without being offensive. After all, they have to be able refer to their target market in some way; no different from refering to Gen Xer’s or milinneals for example. This recent survey from NPR reveals that it really isn’t that complicated but there is no magic bullet either. Avoid phrases like “senior citizen” and “elderly.” In many cases “older adults” or “older Americans” will simply do.
